There are large variations between different member states in terms of the trust they place in their own governments, although, overall, half of the European population does not trust its own government. Respondents from Greece were the most critical, while people from Hungary place most trust in their governments. The results show that there are low levels of trust towards the government in countries with lingering political crises, while stability potentially increases the level of trust. Judgment on the media is just as divisive, with 52 percent of Europeans saying they trust mass media, while the majority (56 percent) also stating they do not trust social media.
